Resilience

Song sparrows are native to North America and are present in Boise, Idaho, year-round. But when winter truly sets in, they have a much harder time finding meals beneath the frozen landscape.
This scrappy and engaging species has earned its moniker from its incredibly varied repertoire of melodies. Male song sparrows use their complex songs to attract females and establish territory, and they happen to be pure music to our ears as well.
I braved freezing January temperatures to capture the delicate performer holding center stage amidst the snow-dusted stalks, giving him a much-deserved audience!
