The golden early morning light on a pond frames a Canada Goose in Boise, Idaho.

With a significant year-round presence in urban areas and few natural predators as adults, Canada geese (Branta canadensis) are considered a nuisance species by many.

However, they are to be admired for their adaptability, intelligence, and social bonds. In fact, they can even remember and recognize human faces.

This particular individual had gradually become increasingly curious about me over the course of a few days and was only a few feet away when I took these pictures, in Boise, Idaho.
