This image is a great testament to the ephemeral nature of everything.

When I encountered the swan with her cygnet, her partner was still around, doting on the second baby. But not long thereafter, she lost all three of her family members to predators.

The image was taken in Boise, Idaho, in 2020, during a time in which we all were facing an uncertain future due to a raging pandemic, and in some cases, dealing with incomprehensible loss.

I named it ‘Unconditional Love’, because a mother’s love for her children is just that – non-negotiable, enduring, and unconditional.
