Florida Manatee

(Trichechus manatus latirostris)

The Florida #manatee population had been recovering until 2021.  Now over 10% have perished year to date, due to starvation!!!

So what does this have to do with the #climatecrisis?  As storms intensify, the run-off from lakes such as #Okeechobee increases. That water contains fertilizer which causes toxic algae blooms and chokes seagrass, the food supply of #manatees.

And #fossilfuels are the biggest culprit of #globalwarming.

This #biodiversityloss comes at a great risk to our own resilience to #climatechange.

At the same time, there are bills in the House (#HR2773) and Senate (#S2372), titled “Recovering America’s Wildlife Act”, which are intended to provide funding for species of greatest conservation need.

Please let the #Florida co-sponsors of those bills know that in order to #savewildlife, we have to #divestfromfossilfuels.
